Hello Tall Oaks Families!

I hope you are enjoying your summer and staying cool! Only a few more days...just kidding...only a few more weeks before we get to see our Tall Oaks ​Learning Leopards and families back in the ​building! Please read below for a few summer updates.

Help Needed: Gifted Advisory Committee

Want to learn more about and support Gifted Education in Charlottesville City Schools? I am looking for two parents/guardians to serve as a representative for Tall Oaks Elementary School. 

The Gifted Advisory Committee meets four times annually. This committee advises in the development and implementation of the gifted education program. If you are interested, please contact me, Principal Mickens, directly via ParentSquare.

Kindergarten Camp

Know any families of new Kindergarten students? Spread the word...We are so excited to welcome our newest Kindergarten students and their families! Join us for a special day designed to ease the transition into school and kick off the year with smiles, fun, and new friendships.

Back to School Bash Flyer

Better Together Back to School Block Party

Date: Sunday, August 10, 2025
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m

The Bash will be held from the Cherry Avenue Boys and Girls Club to Forrest Hills Park. There will be something for everyone—music, food, bounce houses, basketball, a game truck, story time, and even a shady tree to enjoy a good book under.
Additional Activities:
  •  On-site student registration and sign-ups for free school supplies
  •  Free haircuts, braids, and new sneakers
  •  Free sports physicals and health resources
  •  Literacy stations and free books to take home
  •  A vibrant atmosphere full of music, games, and community spirit

Meet & Greets & Leopard Luau

DATE: AUGUST 11, 2025
Time: 1:00 - 2:45 pm
(Meet and Greet your teacher in the classroom)

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
(Leopard Luau on big playground)
(Classroom teachers will head outside at 3:00 pm to join the fun!)

Come meet your teacher, take a peek at your classroom, drop off your school supplies, and head outside for some face painting, snacks, and more!
(No appointment needed)

We’re excited to announce that we’re able to provide backpacks and school supplies for students in need for another year! Please register here if you would like assistance with school supplies (complete one form per student). Supplies can be picked up when we see you for our Meet & Greet which will be held on August 11th from 1 pm - 4 pm at Tall Oaks Elementary (formerly Johnson).
